Bill Owens was a member of a round table speaking at a conference of American (North and South) Port Authority Executives and Members of their Boards in Washington, DC recently. The focus of the conversation was on issues related to US/Canada trade, and the impact of various legislation on that relationship, including the USMCA, the Harbour Maintenance Tax and various other proposals pending in Congress. The questions from participants focused on the upcoming 2020 election, and how that might play out on both the Republican and Democratic sides of the aisle, as well as the impact of the takeover by Democrats of the House of Representatives. They also raised questions about soft wood lumber and the steel and aluminum tariffs.
